The Vocation of Priest

In The Christian Community the priestly vocation is prepared for through seminary study and practical experience. For those who want to seriously consider the possibility of entering the training process, a good place to start is in conversation with a priest and in becoming active within their local Christian Community.

The vocation is entered through the portal of the Sacrament of Ordination. Movement towards that portal is gradual and only as it becomes quite near can a real decision become possible. The path towards priesthood must be walked in freedom and in trust. Some will enter – others will not.

In receiving ordination, an individual takes on a responsibility that answers to the higher dimensions of existence. The task of bearing and celebrating the sacraments is divine responsibility. Such a responsibility can be both an honour and a challenge.

Priests in The Christian Community come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Some enter the profession whilst still in their twenties whilst others are somewhat older. Some have a gift for working with older people whilst others with children and young people – some with both. Some work out of their artistic or musical skills, whilst others work from their scholarship and research. The work challenges most to develop new skills and to constantly strengthen those already acquired. Most priests are active students of anthroposophy.

There are two German language based seminaries in Germany and one English language based seminary in North America Chestnut Ridge N.Y.
